The Trinity in man…
The Trinity in man… It is rightly said, man is the maker of his destiny. God Who is the Spirit of Time does not cause good or evil, but man does it with his own actions, says Bhagawan…discoursing about the presence of The Trinity in man and the importance of Trikarana Shuddhi. The true nature of the Trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara should be properly understood. They symbolise the qualities of Satwa, Rajas and Tamas which are present in every human being. Who is Easwara? The Veda has described Easwara as Atma. It has proclaimed the identity of the heart with Easwara “Easwavassarvabhoothaanam” declares The Gita. (The Gita declares: Easwara dwells in the region of the heart of every living being.) Hence, Easwara is described as “Hridayeswara” (the Lord of the heart). The seat of thoughts is the mind. The mind has been described as symbolising the form of Vishnu. Vishnu means one who pervades everything. The mind has the power to reach out for anything in the universe. Hence the cosmos is rooted in the mind. The thoughts emanating from the mind find expression in words or speech (“Vaak”). Brahma symbolises the power of speech. Thus, the heart, the mind and speech together constitute humanness. Sanctifying these three has been described as ‘Trikarana Shuddhi’, purity in thought, word and deed. The worship of the Trinity really calls for purification of the mind (Vishnu), the heart (Easwara) and speech (Brahma). Men today are immersed in transient worldly activities. They should sanctify all actions by purifying their feelings. The New Year is called Easwara. Easwara means one who is endowed with all forms of wealth. People greet the New Year as if it is going to confer on them some new benefits. The good or evil, the gains or losses, the renown or infamy experienced by people are not the outcome of the passage of years. They are the consequences of their own actions. “Samvatsara” (the year) is one of the names of God. Because God is associated with time He is also known as Time-Spirit (Kalatmaka). Hence, we should not consider the Lord, who is the Spirit of Time, as likely to cause good or evil to us. Our actions, good or bad, bear fruits according to their nature. The Trinity in man – A Sacred Reflection On Divine Powers Within Human Life The Trinity in man is a profound spiritual idea that reminds us that human life is not ordinary or meaningless. Within every person, there are divine powers of creation, preservation, and transformation. These powers are often connected with Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, but in daily life they can also be understood as thought, action, and inner purification. Human beings often look for God only outside, in temples, scriptures, holy places, and sacred forms. These are beautiful aids for devotion, but spiritual wisdom teaches that the Divine is also present within. The human body is a temple, the heart is the altar, and conscience is the inner voice of God guiding us toward truth. The Trinity in man teaches that the power of creation begins with thought. Every action first appears as an idea in the mind. Good thoughts create good words, good habits, and good character. Bad thoughts create disturbance, selfishness, and wrong action. Therefore, the mind must be protected and purified through prayer, discrimination, and noble company. The preserving power within us is love and righteousness. Just as Lord Vishnu is seen as the sustainer of the universe, the values of truth, compassion, duty, and discipline sustain human life. Without these values, relationships break, society becomes restless, and the mind loses peace. Values preserve the dignity of life. The Trinity in man becomes meaningful when we understand the transforming power within. Lord Shiva represents the destruction of ignorance, ego, and impurity. In our own life, this means removing anger, jealousy, greed, pride, hatred, and selfishness. Destruction in this sense is not negative; it is purification. When weeds are removed, flowers can grow. Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba often reminded devotees that man is not merely the body, but the embodiment of the Divine Atma. This truth gives great dignity to human birth. We are not born only to chase desires, collect possessions, and satisfy the senses. We are born to discover the divinity hidden within and express it through love and service. The Trinity in man also reminds us of the unity of thought, word, and deed. If thought is pure, speech becomes truthful, and action becomes righteous. When these three are in harmony, life becomes peaceful. When we think one thing, say another, and do something else, inner conflict begins. In daily life, the creative power can be used to create harmony, hope, and goodness. We can create peace in the family through patience. We can create trust through honesty. We can create joy through kindness. We can create inspiration through noble example. Every person has the ability to create a better atmosphere around them. The Trinity in man finally teaches that preservation requires responsibility. Goodness must be protected through discipline. Faith must be protected through regular practice. Relationships must be protected through understanding. Health must be protected through moderation. Society must be protected through service and respect for others. Transformation is the most difficult but most necessary part of spiritual life. Many people want blessings, success, and peace, but they do not want to change their habits. The Divine within asks us to burn away selfishness and become purer. Every time we control anger, forgive someone, speak truth, or serve without pride, transformation takes place. Prayer, namasmarana, bhajan, meditation, and seva help awaken these divine powers. Prayer creates humility, the divine name preserves purity, bhajan fills the heart with devotion, meditation destroys restlessness, and seva removes ego. These practices help the inner trinity function in a sacred way. A devotee should not think of the Trinity only as a distant concept. It is a practical guide for living. Before creating any thought, ask
